Communication workers Union of Kenya (COWU-K) has officially achieved a monumental victory for Digital and Tech workers across the region by signing a land mark Recognition Agreement with The Global Outsourcing Giant Teleperformance Kenya (TP)
The signing ceremony was attended by COWU-K General Secretary, Mr. Benson Okwaro; Deputy General Secretary, Mr. Johnson Okoto; Teleperformance CEO, Mr. Sven De carter; and Vice President, People Operations, Mr. B. Santanu, among other representatives.
The agreement marks a historic milestone not only for COWU-K and Teleperformance workers, but for the wider labour movement in Africa. It represents an important step towards strengthening social dialogue, workers’ representation, collective bargaining, and decent work within the Technology sector and Business Process Outsourcing (BPO).
This achievement is particularly significant because it is the first of its kind between a trade union and a Technology (Tech) company in Africa, setting an important precedent for workers in the rapidly growing digital economy.
COWU-K, commends Teleperformance Kenya (BPO) for demonstrating their openness, professionalism and commitment to constructive engagement and partnership. We equally commend our members for their resilience, commitment and determination in reaching this historic milestone. This agreement opens a new chapter where workers and management can work together to promote decent work, fair labour practices, productivity and sustainable growth in the Tech sector.
Today, we celebrate not just the signing of an agreement, but the opening of a new chapter where technology, innovation and decent work move together and where the workers driving Africa’s digital transformation have a recognised seat at the negotiating table.
COWU-K takes pride in this achievement arising from determination, organizing, perseverance and a firm belief that workers in the digital economy deserve the same dignity, protection and collective voice in every other sector.
